Kundalini Yoga was introduced in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 1995 by Guru Sangat Kaur Khalsa. Belo Horizonte is a city of about 2.3 million inhabitants. The first teacher’s training course in the city was in 2000 and the most important lesson that was learned is to serve. Since then, over two hundred teachers were trained, 38 Kundalini Yoga Centers were opened, and The Brazilian Association of the Friends of Kundalini Yoga (ABAKY) was structured.

In 1998 The Golden Circle Cooking was created, which is a program about vegetarian cuisine—exquisite, delicious and rich in nutrients. Its mission is to provide an experience of vegetarianism and to serve langar at Gurdwaras, White Tantric Yoga courses, and special occasions at most ABAKY events. The Golden Circle Cooking organizes regular culinary courses, offering cooking tips and news of organic, vegetarian and whole food. Guru Sant Kaur, a food lover and researcher, was assisted by a team of Kundalini Yoga teachers in the creation of The Sacred Tasting, a book about improving the quality of life through conscious eating.

Rosinha’s Nursery

Rosinha’s Nursery

There are Kundalini Yoga classes for children from ages 4 - 6 at Rosinha’s Nursery and are in daycare full time. The classes are conducted by Ditta Kaur, Sat Beant Kaur, Gyan Dharam Kaur and Jiwan Preet Singh Khalsa. The project was created in order to provide the children with the experience of yoga classes with music, stories and games that increase self-awareness, build self-esteem and reinforce the strength of their bodies. The weekly classes of about 45 minutes are developed to encourage the children to practice pranayamas, to keep their eyes closed, to realize themselves and to see how exercise makes them feel, as well as to introduce the practice of meditation, relaxation and contemplation even for a few seconds, helping them in the gradual development of stillness and focus. This program aims to build values and virtues, to promote self-respect, and respect for each other's identity and the group, from the individual force and strength of group support. Some of the results observed are the recognition of breath "as their best friend," the initial understanding of the meaning of "restrain themselves," involvement with the frequency of sound through mantras, and acceptance of a few moments of relaxation and meditation.

"Children are very sensitive beings, people complete with high antenna power that records every vibration around completely and deeply." Yogi Bhajan

Aquarian Children

Aquarian Children

75 children from ages 4 to 6 years attend Kundalini Yoga classes at Joaninhas’s Nursery. Hari Mitar Kaur, Ramjeet Kaur and Sat Sangat Kaur believe that working with children is very important for our future, since they are leaders of tomorrow. The technology of Kundalini Yoga gives the children a real and concrete support for their growth as developing human beings; a different future; and the development of consciousness. Several tools are used including stories and games to promote playfulness and the active participation of the children. The goal is to build trust, improve mood, fight depression and aggression, develop attention, encourage the internal connection, help them to grow strong, and improve breathing.

"You do good to somebody, it remains good if you do it in the name of your own God. That is a seva. If you do it in the name of your own spirit, your own soul, that is seva. If you do something expecting something tomorrow, you better not do it. It’s not worth it. It’s not seva. Seva is a conscious and deliberate service to benefit another person, even at your cost. Remember, whosoever does seva, it is one to a hundred, God comes through."   Yogi Bhajan
